We’re delighted that NICE has taken Birth Companions’ feedback on board in the latest update to its Postnatal Care Standard (QS37), and included direct references to the specific needs of women in contact with the criminal justice system, those who are known to social services, and those who are separated from their baby in the postnatal period.
The experiences and concerns of women who are navigating their postnatal care amidst particularly traumatic and complex circumstances are all too often overlooked. The updates to this standard help recognise that, and set an expectation that healthcare providers must respond appropriately.
