I learnt a lot from Birth Companions and they were like a family for me and my baby. They supported me in every way.

What we do

Birth Companions performs a vital role for women both in prison and in the community. Our trained staff and volunteers provide support for women who would otherwise face pregnancy, birth and early motherhood alone. Research has shown that if a woman feels well-supported around the time of giving birth, she is better able to look after her baby. We also believe that if women are supported and encouraged to bond with their babies and to feel positive about their role as a mother at this very early stage, this will provide them with a strong basis for parenting in the future.
